Storyboard Postcode Loterij

The making of a storyboard for Postcode Loterij.

NL (for English scroll down):

When agency Fuel asked me to do the storyboard for the Holiday Season commercial of the Zipcode Lottery they were quite clear: there was little budget, so I had to go rough. Luckily the art director knew precisely what he wanted, which is nice for then you can really speed up. Actually that’s the best way to work: a huge workload and very little time to make it. I quickly go through the scenes, make the right choices fast, and the only thing that runs through my brain is: next, next, next. Ultimately I end up in a flow, in which everything goes easy.

Twilight

Christmas time is the Twighlight Zone, so all scenes start out with a nice dark blue backdrop, creating an overall mood, and enabling me to work details fast: a few highlights, the right contrasting colours, and you’re done before you know it. I put up the lines in one go, most of them quite bold, although… cars do take some detail to materialize, as well as police motor cycles and the Zipcode Lottery van. By using airbruch as a pencil I quickly colour in vast surfaces, and the fuzzy edge works well when I don’t have to colour “within the lines”. I’m superfast with Photoshop, so I always use it for drawing. Illustrator is more for the fine design work, for print or for scalable execution.

Of course I delivered the storyboard within the deadline, and after a few adaptations it was ready for presentation. Very rewarding to see the execution later on!
